Impact van internet op organisaties

“I predict third‐party political movements to start on the internet and gain share rapidly in perhaps even the next election. Institutions who don't pay attention will find themselves obsolete. I look at our present congress and wonder how much more out of touch any group of individuals could be. Bye‐bye present politicos.”

Er heerst ook het nodige cynisme. Eigenlijk ziet iedereen wel de voordelen van internet, maar sommige mensen vragen zich af of de gevestigde orde alle verandering wel ziet zitten, zo schrijft blogger Daniel Flamberg:

“Inertia, bureaucracy, entrenched interests, siloed structures, and a lack of leadership will ensure that government and probably business will lag in the adoption of online cooperation. A handful will break out and set the precedents but most will take a waitand‐ see posture so that the effectiveness and efficiency that the internet can potentially bring will not be fully realized by 2020.”

Hij wordt daarin bijgestaan door Anthony Townsend van het Institute of the Future die nog een stapje verder gaat:

“Institutions are good not just at resisting change but at structuring it. Don't underestimate the social inertia provided by legal systems.”

Tien jaar is eigenlijk een te korte periode om grootschalige verandering tot stand te brengen. Dat is eigenlijk wat de ondervraagden naar voren brengen. Uiteindelijk zal het nodige wel veranderen - denken een aantal experts - omdat de maatschappelijke druk groot is en het succes van organisaties die wél veranderen inspirerend werkt.
