Deaf people have trouble detecting sound behind them. It is difficult for them to hear the klaxon of a car or the alarming yell of somebody. Clearly, this can lead to dangerous situations. Three Korean designers created Vibe Rings that consists of two rings and a wristwatch. The rings, worn on each hand, signal sound and vibrate if the sound is above a certain volume. Sound can also be interpreted and sent to the wristwatch to indicate the reason of vibration: the horn of a car or someone calling your name.
The best innovations make sure that functionality wins over technology. That certainly is the case with these vibration rings that make technology work in a non-obtrusive manner. The main goal is to give impaired people more social confidence in all kinds of situations. This idea won an iF concept award in 2008.
