The Dutch Social Cultural Planbureau (
SCP) published yesterday a
survey titled 'New links in the family'. In the survey they took a look at the digital lifestyle of Dutch youngsters and their role in the family. Some of the outcomes of the survey are (source:
Mediaonderzoek):
· More than 40% of the youngsters has a computer with internetconnection on their own room.
· Almost all youngsters use msn (98%). Half of the parents say they know what MSN is and one in three parents has his own msn-account.
· Mothers are less computer savvy than the rest of the family. When there are difficult tasks on computers fathers are the best.
· More then half of the youngsters have their own website/blog. Half of the parents don't know that.
· Half of the youngsters know new people through the internet.
· 4% of the parents think their child also shows bad behaviour (teasing on msn) on the internet. 12% of the youngsters say they sometimes tease on the internet.
· A majority says never to worry about the internet usage of their kids.
A very interesting report and again it is good to see how the virtual world is captured in the DNA of the upcoming generations. Want to know more about the survey 'Nieuwe links in het gezin' just look at the
