Jazari: de Wii-remote als ‘instrument’
Al-Jazari is de bouwer van de eerste robot hand ter wereld en Jazari is nu de naam van een heel bijzondere percussie band.
De man achter Jazari is Patrick Flanagan en hij is eind 2008 begonnen om zijn percussie instrumenten om te bouwen zodat hij meerdere instrumenten alleen kan bespelen. In the end of 2009 he had machines that played the djembe drum, the bongos, and a variety of hand percussion instruments. During the process of building his bots, Patrick learned that immediate, improvisatory control of his machines was just as compelling as the high level instructions he had given his virtual musicians. With the help of two Wiimotes, he became a cyborg percussionist.
Inmiddels kijkt de hele wereld vol verbazing toe hoe Patrick alleen een volledige percussie band is door middel van onder andere Wii-controlers. Indrukwekkend en inspirerend.
