Everyone knows the frustration when he's to carry his devices, you have to bring as many power suppliers. Each device has it's own converter to charge the internal battery, because each electronic needs other amounts of energy. It's not only annoying, it is also environmental heavy: many power suppliers are abandoned early because you buy a new device. Also, a lot of energy is wasted because current technology cannot see if the battery is fully charged. The connecter still consumes energy even when the battery of the device doesn't ask for it; this leads to a giant leak of energy.
Green Plug wants to change this. The company urges consumer electronic manufacturers to adopt a universal standard, Greentalk, that allows an information exchange between the device and the power supply to determine the right amount of energy. In this way you can use one connector for many devices as the connector delivers energy according to the specifications of the device.
The big question is if the big companies will adopt this - or a competing - standard. From a consumer point of view, we really need this kind of standardisation. It would be great to have just one connecter that powers my laptop, camera, phone and all other utilities. The USB-standard showed that it can be done; USB powers low energy devices. Green Plug is compatible with USB and extend the possibilities. Let's wait and see!
