'The fair Tracing' project a British University (Bradford) is developing a digital tag that will tell the backstory behind the products we buy. So what is the background history of your bananas, tea, coffee, chocolate or tunefish. This innovation will make our markets very transparent. In the ideal situation a unique number printed on the label or RFID tags is used to give the consumers the information they want.
For this project the university of Bradford partnered with Ehrmanns, a importer of fair-trade wine. They predict that the first tagged bottles will be in the shops by next spring 2008. Then shoppers will punch numbers into their cell phone or PDA right in the store, or on their computer back home to receice true information about the products and brands they buy. Is this the future? What do you think?
