Technology enables so many options that it is a challenge to keep matters simple. With software you must try even harder. Frog Design prides it's design of the
icons for the SAP ERP-suite, but how simple are 422 abstract buttons? Perhaps, but only perhaps, manageable for professionals, but a bridge too far in ordinary life. Nevertheless, design can help making products usable and enjoyable.
A good example is the project
Charmr, an initiative by design agency Adaptive Path. This project targets diabetics to support them in managing their disease. A number of design principles (e.g. less stuff to carry, better use of data, a motivating use) were leading in designing a solution that works and pays respect to the person. Usability first, technology second. A wise lesson for everyone who thinks from a technology push point of view.
