Normally this blog is forward looking, but with the year ending, the annual lists keep appearing that look back on the year. One of my personal highlights each year is the publication of
Best Business Books in Strategy+Business. Collected by interesting thinkers, it is an annual check to see if you did miss some of the important titles that you still have to read. This year the common theme is human behaviour, especially in the executive room (ahum). Michael Schrage lists the best books on innovation (my personal opinion is that you can skip 'The myths of innovation' by Scott Berkun) and Howard Rheingold collected the most interesting titles on human behaviour (contains the most interesting book 'Everything Is Miscellaneous: The Power of the New Digital Disorder' by David Weinberger). Also an enjoyable read was 'Founders at Work: Stories of Startups’ Early Days' written by Jessica Livingston that is mentioned in the category Entrepreneurs. The book contains interviews with the persons that started companies like 37Signals (the most simple web applications), Six Apart (blogging software), Hot or Not (the website where you can be scrutinized by fellow teens to see if you're, well, hot or not) and PayPal (the paying company bought by eBay). Some of the most interesting books though are published in the last months of this year and I'm still reading in my sparse free time to see if they make my personal list of best books for 2007. Stay tuned!
