Henry Mintzberg on the future of organizations
Today on Extend Limits we present Henry Mintzberg's vision on the future of management and organizations. He states: the influence of share holders is to big on CEO’s and that this should change.
It is already hard enough to motivate employees. To motivate them with share holder value is impossible, especially when they are day traders. He states that the current stock market does not work any more and most companies should leave the stock exchange.
As many companies as possible should get out of it because it is dysfunctional the way it is working today
Another option is to give the right to vote only to those share holders that hold their stocks for a longer period of time. The CEO’s should be less responsive to share holders and be more responsive to society and other groups like employees and customers.
Corporations are institutions which serve society and are responsive to society
He sees great danger in the power of private companies caused by advertising on society. The Clean Coal campaign is an example, a consumer that does not agree has no means to oppose to this message. This will lead to a unbalanced society.
This looks contradictory to the current trend that consumers getting more power in the future.

@ Jorgen, interessant stuk! De vraag is in hoeverre consumenten tegenwoordig ‘alleen’ staan aangezien ze zich snel een eenvoudig met nieuwe media kunnen organiseren tegen bedrijven.——-

Hi Jorgen, Persoonlijk ben ik altijd heel liberaal op dit vlak: je kunt bedrijven wel heel makkelijk beschuldigen van al die reclame, maar als consument hoef je dat toch allemaal niet te geloven? En consumenten sluiten zich ook aan bij organisaties om zich te laten informeren vanuit andere bronnen. Juist de Clean Coal campagne is een uitstekend voorbeeld. Als reactie op die campagne is de website http://www.thisisreality.org opgezet die de thematiek vanuit de tegenkant benadert. Ik ben niet zo pessimistisch. Maar ik ben misschien niet representatief, ik ben abonnee op een krant omdat ik geloof in het belang van onafhankelijke journalistiek
