Cristal: future remote control
The remote control is losing ground to new technologies which are on the horizon. And I am so glad with this develpment! The future is to CRISTAL!
Let's introduce CRISTAL. A great concept which shows us the future of remote controlled living rooms. CRISTAL stands for 'Control of Remotely Interfaced Systems using Touch-based Actions in Living spaces' and is a kind of surface computing. CRISTAL uses for example your coffee-tableto control all your devices in your living room. Your coffee-table has to become a high tech table to achieve this. And the main question for that is: do you wnt a high tech table in your living room. well when you have seen the clip and the possibilities of CISTAL I think you will want one.
Cristal offers many possibilities. You are able to control all the devices which are in your living room like lighting, digital photo frame, TV, refrigerator and even your future cleaning robot. Everything is direct accessible via the Cristal table! The example of watching a movie was very interesting and user friendly. Cristal uses a camera in the living room to monitor all the devices and to interact with them. I think it is a great application!
CRISTAL simplifies the control of our digital devices in and around the living room. The system provides a novel experience for controlling devices in a home environment by enabling users to directly interact with those devices on a live video image of their living room using multi-touch gestures on a digital tabletop

Echt heel cool! Maar, reageert ie ook op kattenpootjes? En kindervoetjes? Kortom voor welke huishoudens is dit geschikt. Ik vrees niet voor het mijne. Toch gaan dit soort interfaces het maken in de hele nabije toekomst, daar ben ik van overtuigd (zei diegene die niet geloofde in de CD-ROM, want wie had er nu zo veel informatie). Natasja

Dit is een verdere uitwerking van een prototype wat pakweg 3 á 4 jaar geleden al ontwikkeld is door een eindejaars student TUE Industrial Design. Op zijn tafel werd de gehele cd-collectie via de fronts van de booklets gepresenteerd. En vervolgens kon je in het booklet bladeren, uit de songlijst kiezen en afspelen, etc. etc. Heel korte samenvatting: zijn idee was ontsproten uit ‘frustratie’ dat in het oordopjes-mp3-tijdperk er niet tot nauwelijks meer over muziek in de huiskamer gesproken c.q. gediscussieerd werd.
